Century XX
The Humanitarian Association of the Voluntary Firefighters of Fão was founded on December 27, 1925. A group of fangueiros, driven by a spirit of solidarity, humanism and parochial impetus, approved the first statutes on that day at a meeting held at the Fãozense Club. The original headquarters were located on Rua Azevedo Coutinho, first at Casa do Relógio, then in the building also emblazoned in Morgado de Senra.
The fire brigade headquarters were inaugurated in September 1968 and was expanded in July 1994. The granite façade bears the heraldry of the firefighters, two crossed axes, a helmet and a horn. At the base, the legend “Life for Life”. Highlights include the fibreglass statue of a firefighter by António Faustino and a collection of old fire trucks.
