Century XX (1954-1957)
The House of Marinhas de Viana de Lima is based on the principles of the European modernism concept, which visible in the conversion of an old windmill into a “modern manor house”.
Alfredo Evangelista Viana de Lima (1913-1991) studied at the School of Fine Arts of Porto, graduating between 1929/41. He led the Portuguese group in the CIAM Congresses, under the orientation of Le Corbusier, from 1951 to 1959. He collaborated with Oscar Niemeyer (1907-2012) and carried out projects in Brazil, Malaysia, Morocco, Mozambique, Thailand and Portugal He is considered one of the masterminds of the Modern Architecture Movement in Portugal.
