Century XVI/XVIII
The chapel dates back to the late 16th century, and was built on a stone platform with the format of a small fortified tower on the beach of Cávado River, north of the mouth of Rêgo da Igreja Brook. This fortified tower would be used to protect the chapel, especially during floods in winter. It has undergone several reconstructions, one in 1699, whose date remains recorded at the base of the cross that is on top of the portico. The current chapel is the result of the works conducted in 1740.
In the vicinity of the chapel one can find the cross, dated back to 1660, which originally stood in front of the chapel door, in a half-moon square. At the end of the 19th century it was transferred to the current location.
